About The Artist & A Paws-itive Cause
I am a crazy cat lady. I own four cats myself--Hamlet, Smudge, Gilligan & Gidget. I have a dog, Abby; and a horse, Danny Boy. I'm a writer of the hopefully soon famous novel,The Dog Star, and enjoy writing about anything every spare second of the day. I am addicted to popcorn and grilled cheese. I love movies and RPGs; Yes I loved X-files and Star-Wars and yes I am a dork..or a geek, depending on who you talk too. But I'm proud of myself and happy with my life. I have a sister who is a shining star when the world is in darkness, and a boyfriend who makes me laugh through my tears. They both help me see the hope in all things, and that life is worth living once when it is done without regret.
I've lived with a camera all my life, and never had much of a passion for photography. I was always good at graphic design, and even took a few classes concerning the proper format and layout for artistic graphics. Since beginning the rescue home in April of 2005, I have found a love of photography I didn't know exsisted. Although I have no formal training, the basic principle of design is there from my leftover days of graphic work.
As the years passed I began to aquire a nice portfolio of beautiful images of the kittens we have saved and raised. I started making a scrap-book of them all, and halfway through I realized...would people buy these? My family and friends seemed to think so highly of them, but were they just being nice? Or were they charmed by the images because they had known the kittens personally? I have always been in a half-egotistical, half-devoted sort of love for each image I present..but that's because I both took the photos and saved the little bundles of fur in them. When they're looking at that camera, they're really seeing me. Who wouldn't be fooled by those eyes?
However, what was the appeal to the still-life photos? I liked them because I was there--but why did others? Perhaps it is because it's a moment in history that was not only captured, but captured well. I'm not tooting my own horn--but think of how many unmoving, frozen memories in time have brought a tear to your eye or a smile to your heart. Its an honor and a priviledge to have the ability to convey some of that.
But that's not even the best part. The best part is that I have a chance to create my own fundraiser and create art. Every picture is a memory, every fee a donation. Not one penny goes to me--it all goes to the kittens and into what I have called The Dakota Fund, an account set-up for special-needs kittens that require hospitalization and care a simple one-woman home cannot give. It is made in memory of Dakota, a kitten who lost his battle to AIDS at just fourteen days old and Desmond, my fourteen month old baby who passed away from FIP.
And that's the story of A Paws-itive Cause Phtography, brought to you through Duat Designs and Paws-itive Kneads Rescue Group.
